Better local search results in Google

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Google is reaching a category status of it’s own.  Just like Kleenix and Windex are synonomous with tissue paper and window cleaner…Google is becoming synonomus with search.  Almost everyone that I know will say “Google it” if they require information.  So if you do a little test…Google terms (aka keywords) that you think your customers would type if they were looking for a product or service you offer…what comes up in the results?  Are you on the first or second page?  Where are your competitors?

With Yellow pages headed towards the way of the dinosaurs…how will you be found?  In the old days of Yellow Pages a common tactic for businesses to get ahead in their respective categories was to start their business with the letter “A” because listings where placed in alphabetical order.  Fast forward to now…You no longer need to have your business start with the letter “A” to achieve top rankings in the search engines.  You need to be relevant in Googles eyes to come out on top.

If you understand this one simple fact (below) about Google…your understanding of how search works will become clearer.

The only thing Google cares about is giving its users the most relevant information associated with what the user types into the search bar.
