Television, Radio, Newspaper and Yellow Pages the big four…as a small business if you can afford to advertise using these mediums you’ve made the big leagues.  But does it work?  Yes, but how effective is it?  Not sure.  Having sold advertising for a few years the only way to be successful with the big four is to be able afford a proper campaign.

For TV and radio it’s the correct demographic and the proper frequency coupled with the right message.

For newspaper it’s placement and call to action.

For yellow pages it’s content.

A proper campaign ususally means BIG BIG BUCKs.  It also means nice fat juicy commissions for the sales rep who sold you the campaign.  In my opinion, the only time one should consider using the above broadbased mediums is when you feel like burning cash!  Think about it for a second…when is the last time you picked up the yellow pages?  I personally picked up the yellow book once this year…looking for a plumber when my waterheater sprung a leak.  How about TV?  I can honestly tell you I have never hurried out the door to McDonald’s when I saw one of their commercials airing…have you?  Same thing for radio and newspaper…quick! what ads come to mind when you think of the last radio commercial or newspaper ad?

Want to save a few bucks?  Figure out how you can help your customer make a decision to buy and make sure that you are closest to him/her at the time the decision is made.

I recently made the decision to purchase an in-ground pool for my house.  How did I choose my pool builder?  Well, when I tossed the idea of getting a pool I asked friends that had pools who did they use…you see…the name of the game is referrals.  I then proceeded to check out websites for information on pools and found not much to be had.  I met with 3 pool builders and one by one they all came out to give me their pitch.  It was a bit of a hassle because we had to coordinate meeting times etc and each meeting took about an hour.  In my opinion a lot of time wasted as the pool building process is pretty much the same.

So what can a small business owner do to get more business?  Develop a BLOG or website that engages the visitor’s emotions and provides all the information they are searching for.

Remember this, in general people DO NOT like being sold to but they love to BUY.

A small business blog or site should contain several key elements:

  • a sign up box to allow visiors to get free information or stay up to date with your business via email,
  • information to overcome any possible obstacle to making a purchase,
  • a way for your site or blog to be interactive with your visitor,

You can set up a Blog or Website in as little as 3 EASY Steps.

Turn something you know about into CASH?

money tree 150x150 Turn something you know about into CASH?Chances are you probably know something about something. Everyone does. If you have a profession, hobby or a passion…chances are pretty good that there are others just like you or there are people looking for information on your profession, hobby or passion. The beauty of the Internet is that it has allowed millions and millions of people to become connected and share knowledge.

Your ability to share your knowledge is the foundation in which you can use to create Internet income. Is there a magic formula for creating wads and wads of cash off the Internet? In short…NO! To be successful online takes the same dedication to be successful at anything. You can pick any group of successful individuals and after you peel away all the layers you will find they have one thing in common…pick any of the following words they all apply: discipline, dedication, willingness to try and try again, pick themselves up and continue after failure etc…

To begin building an Internet income generating machine you need to have the following four key elements:

Content – content in the Internet world is king. What type of content? Niche content. We go back to what I mentioned before…everyone knows something about something. And the key to becoming successful on the Internet is that the more you can drill down on a particular subject and get out of the mainstream the more success you will have.

Traffic – like real world bricks and mortar store fronts the success of Internet based businesses also depends on its ability to generate traffic. In the brick and mortar world it’s location location location. Business success on the Internet depends on information information information. Key relevant information on your topic and the relentless dedication to providing additional useful information on an ongoing basis is what builds traffic. It does not happen immediately but as more and more information is published the search engines will notice and the classic quote “Build and they will come” from the Field of Dreams Movie will become reality. If you are publishing information that people want you will ultimately be rewarded with traffic.

The Pre-Sell – the next step to creating Internet income is pre-selling. It’s your content that does the pre-selling. Let face it…not very many people like to be “sold” on something. However, almost everyone wants to buy something. So how does one pre-sell? It goes back to the first building block of providing key relevant and useful information that satisfies what the visitor is looking for. If you can build rapport, trust and confidence with your visitor you are in essence getting them in the proper frame of mind to buy from you (aka pre-selling). Which leads to the next step.

Monetization – is the method in which you can earn income from your visitors. There are many montization options available. You may have a physical product to sell or a service to offer. Or even create a paid membership site that caters solely to people who are willing to pay for the information/expertise you are offering.

A young lady that created a website on beaches in the Caribbean using the above formula is proof that anyone can create an income from the Internet. For the full story click here.
